10 Ways to Stay Healthy This Year

It’s a new year and we all know what that means: New Years Resolutions! According to @Shape Magazine, less than 10 percent of people who make New Years resolutions don’t follow through with their goals. People either give up or make excuses saying they are too tired or don’t have time.

Well this year I am here to help you stick to 10 rules and regimens to staying healthy in 2013:

1. Buy ONLY healthy food at the grocery store

  • Fruits and vegetables are key items to your diet
  • Meats for protein and good carbs such as pasta and wheat breads

2. Make a set schedule for your gym sessions

  • Go at a time that is comfortable for you whether its mornings before work or evenings after work.
  • Plan your workout regimen ahead of time and make it fun!

3. Count your calories

  • This is not hard! There is an incredible app called “MyFitness Pal” and it is amazing and has everything.
  • This helps you balance a healthy diet and you begin to realize that you really don’t need all the snacks in between meals.

4. Get a workout partner to motivate you

  • Workout with a friend who is trying to do the exact same thing as you.
  • Working out with someone else can also feel like a competition if you are a competitive person at heart.

5. Drink water everyday, all day!

  • I cannot emphasize this enough, drink at least 8 glasses of 8 oz cups a day
  • You may not think this but water can curb your appetite if you drink a full glass before every meal.

6. Get the right amount of sleep every night

  • 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended every night for adults, if this means an earlier bedtime then so be it!
  • Sleep refreshes your mind and body every morning; so don’t miss your sleep!

7. Relieve stress by attending Yoga class

  • Sometimes Yoga is not people’s favorite because it is to slow but I promise it’s so relaxing and relieves tension.
  • Yoga is known to be a mental discipline for your mind and helps you become more flexible; two perks in one!

8. Take a Multi-Vitamin

9. Take some quiet time for yourself

  • Everyone needs “me” time, take some time to do a daily devotion or read a book on your balcony.
  • Honestly, take a vacation!

10. Lastly, allow yourself 1-2 cheat meals a week

  • Yes, this is allowed but don’t get to use to it! Everyone needs to fulfill cravings and splurge a little.
  • It actually can help you avoid the feeling of deprivation, which helps you stay on track.

One thing I did not mention that I always use to help me stay motivated and healthy is Twitter. Yes of course everything relates to social media so get on the Twitter machine if you’re not already on the bandwagon! Following nutrition and workout accounts on Twitter will always keep you updated on the best ways to stay motivated in the kitchen and in the gym!

I highly recommend doing this if you are looking for ways to keep your new years resolutions going. Take these 10 tips and use them everyday, I promise you will stay on track for the whole year!
