Social Media, Relationships, & How to Avoid the Dog House

Word problem of the day. Melanie’s schedule consists of working, eating, sleeping, daily workouts, and catching up on her DVR recordings. If her schedule consumes 22 hours of the day, how many hours does she have left for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram? If you said two, boy are you wrong.

With social media popularizing at a fast pace, we are able to use these sites at such convenience. Americans aged 18-64 who use social networks say they spend an average of 3.2 hours per day doing so according  to Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange (OTX). The male averages 2.6 hours per day, while the women averages equal 3.6. (OTX)

Fifty percent of Twitter users are using the social network via mobile. (source: Microsoft tag) You can’t even get through an entire episode of The Walking Dead without your wife checking her retweets and replies. You can thank your Aunt Betty and Cousin Joe for the distraction. All they wanted to do was compliment your wife’s new haircut. But rarely will they suffer the consequences or take the blame.

In honor of all the newly weds,  married couples, and those who still claim to be “Just Friends”.

5 Commandments to Keep You Out of the Dog House

1. Thou shall not eat and tweet. It can wait until your husband leaves to the restroom.

2. Husbands, thou shall not abuse the privilege to “Toilet Tweet”, “Restroom Ruzzle”, or “Pin & Potty “. That last one might be applicable to most ladies. (You might think that is gross, but it’s easy to name a handful of people who do it.)

3. Thou shall multi-task. Often. Try catching up on the links your BFF emailed you while on the treadmill.

4.Girlfriends, thou shall remember that your boyfriend does not want to hear about Facebook rumors. He has your password, he probably already read it.

5.Thou shall remember it’s not romantic to be interrupted by vibrations and annoying alerts while trying to have movie night. Especially during scary movies, you jump because you’re on edge. Don’t you hate creepy background music?

Husbands and boyfriends, remember this if you do not wish to sleep on the couch. Wives and girlfriends remember this if you don’t want your husband to take out his phone.
