Titans Online

Well, looks like we had another disappointing season for the Tennessee Titans. Any hope of a playoff bid was crushed with a final record of 6-10. Sorry fans, no attempt at the Super Bowl this year. While the 37 year old, Matt Hasselback, continued aging on the bench, Jake Locker threw 10 TD’s and led the team through its –– anything but impressive — season. Titans’ fans miss the days when Chris Johnson ran for over 2,000 yards a season and would break away for 80 yard touchdown runs.

However, it is hard to call Johnson’s season mediocre. In fact, he still ran for 1,200 yards and led the team in all-purpose yards. Even with the 6-10 record in mind, Chris Johnson is an elusive, speedy back that runs to score.

This season for the first time I paid close attention to the social media surrounding my beloved Titans. I followed players, coaches, and the official team Twitter accounts. I did it originally because I kept hearing about all the smack talk going down on Twitter between athletes, and I wanted to be witness to it if any of the Titans chose to show some flare online.  By the end of this dismal season instead of being witness to amusing smack talk via twitter I felt closer to the team than ever before.  When players tweeted after tough losses about playing better for the fans it actually meant something to me. And when our safety Michael Grifffin tweeted “Worst Nightmare” with a twitter pic of an MRI machine I was scared too!

I think following a football team and its players/coaches on twitter can bring you closer to the team, but for other sports it doesn’t feel as authentic. Other sports have too many games. The reaction after a game whether its good or bad is rarely as unified between basketball players as it is between football players on Twitter.

I’ll be watching and listening next year to my team. I smell a Super Bowl. TITAN UP
