Sneakerheads: Getting ‘Kick’ed to the Curb

Shoe connoisseurs now have to camp out close to their computers  rather than waiting in line for days to get their pair. The “Midnight Release” craze has resulted in tragedy too often for Nike to ignore. As of last spring Nike has decided you must RSVP via Twitter to ‘cop’ a pair of these limited edition shoes. A link to a video is embedded below to give you an idea of just how crazy it can get.

Midnight Release Craze

Robberies, riots, and stabbings occur after the release days of in demand basketball shoes, that often don’t get the chance to be worn on the court. Although it seemed to be a low cost, high reward marketing strategy, the price was ultimately on people’s heads. Nike is using a RSVP Tweet method in hopes that their loyal customers realize they no longer need to jeopardize their lives for their exclusive sneakers. The process begins by following your local Nike store. They send out a tweet warning and instructing you how to reserve that particular shoe. A hopeful customer must monitor their twitter account tirelessly, because the process happens quickly.

Although retailers are not prohibited to hold release events, they also have become quite creative. Some of them have chose to use a lottery method to allow a fair chance for Sneakerheads to get their hands on a pair.
More then twenty pairs of eye candy will be released, most in honor All Star Weekend. Sneakerheads around the country rejoice to finally have the highly anticipated shoes designed by their favorite basketball legends Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and Kobe Bryant. Here are some of photos of the unique designs.
