Who had the best online April Fools’ jokes?

April Fools’ Day was just a few days ago, and now that we have made it to 4/4/14, it’s time to reflect on some of the best April Fools’ jokes of 2014.  As social media has become more popular, April Fools’ has changed. Online April Fools’ jokes seemed to be more popular than ever this year.  This time of the year used to be a time to play pranks like putting post-it notes all over someone’s office or posting a friend’s cell phone number as the number to call for a chewbacca-impersonation contest.  Now, friends, family, and companies post their April Fools’ jokes on social media or in the digital space.  In fact, many of the best April Fools’ jokes are elaborately created digital marketing schemes.  That doesn’t mean that the old classic pranks are nowhere to be found, but it does mean that digital April Fools’ jokes are more common and more easily accessible.  It is an easier way for the average American to enjoy taking part in April Fools’.

Everywhere you look you can see online April Fools’ jokes this year.  Tuesday, hundreds of different clever puns, ideas, and jokes were released all over the internet.  Whether it was a picture promising that your favorite band was going to get back together or an ad for a new product or service, the companies and people who took part in April Fools’ this year kept the day interesting, filled with laughs and fun realizations.  Here are just a few of some of the good digital April Fools’ jokes of 2014.

Google did well.  They allowed you to photobomb one of your own pictures with David Hasselhof.  They also put out a search for Pokemon masters and hid Pokemon all over google maps.  On top of that, they also had a function that allowed people to turn websites into emojis.  This was a fun  online April fools jokes for this year.

There were a slew of jokes where companies created new items to purchase.  M&M advertised for Bacon M&M’s, Rosetta Stone advertised a new program that teaches Klingon, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch advertised a new flavor: Grilled Cheese.

Southwest cleverly threw their hat into the ring when they revealed a new flight to Mars.  They advertised that the flight would only cost $9,999 for a round trip.
