Tell Brad Pitt to move over, there is a new superstar in town- and it’s not Justin Bieber… it’s you!

Instafamous.  Also known as Instagram famous, is a term that acquires thousands- if not millions- of people following your Instagram account. You know who you are. You average 50k likes per photo… on a weekend… at midnight. You have such a large following that brands contact you to wear their clothes (and keep them) or promote their products on your captions (and get paid using them).  You have made it when Victoria Secret contacts you to come to their annual fashion show for free… on the Angel’s private jet.

We all know what ‘going viral’ means. We have seen the 2012 viral Gangnam Style music video that-to date- has over 39 million hits on Youtube. You either shared it or it was shared with you, but there is no doubt you saw it. Even Justin Bieber was made famous by vlogging (video blogging) on Youtube.

But who said you have to be talented to be famous? Just ask the Kardashian’s- the world’s most famous family via a reality TV show. What if your family isn’t willing to be exposed to the world over television? No worries… television shows don’t even come close to gaining as many viewers as social media platforms do.

Viewers no longer want to wait for the show to start- they want their stars in an ‘insta’nt!

But, how?!

Getting Started:

1. Choose your Instagram name wisely. (If you are a food Instagram- get artsy with food)
2. Dare to be different. (Anyone can paddle board- but not while doing Pilates in the South Pacific)
3. Create a following. (Follow-to-Following ratio is NOT a thing- you have to like other’s photos to be liked)
4. Make yourself a brand. (If you’re a braid blogger- what is your signature braid?)
5. Sell yourself. (Other brands want you for your following- the larger your audience, the larger your compensation)

Staying Current:

1. Post your BEST content: It’s Instagram NOT Snapchat
2. Timing makes a difference: It’s 5 o’clock somewhere
3. #hashtags are there for a reason- use them!
4. Stay connected to be connected! (Golden Rule… If you like me, I am more inclined to like you back)
