150 new emojis

The time has come. If you are a devout emoji sender, you just received 150 new gifts. On Wednesday, October 21, Apple rolled out its latest iOS 9.1 updates, and with it came 150 new emojis — including the “rock on” hand symbol and that much desired taco.

As Emojipedia explains, the latest update “makes iOS the first operating system to include every single emoji in the Unicode Standard.” What this means is that both the new characters approved in Unicode 8.0 earlier this year as well as older characters from Unicode 1.1 that have been turned into emoji are all packed in. So let’s take stock of the brand new emojis—and the tiny victories they represent—that we can now enjoy in the midst of the swirling, unstoppable chaos of the modern world

Eye in Speech Bubble

The creators of this new emoji were not Apple, but rather the Ad Council — which gave us the “Friends Deye in son’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” ads, the Crash Test Dummies, Scruff McGruff and more — invented the new eye-in-speech bubble emoji as part of it’s anti-bullying campaign, “I am a witness.

 

   

2. Unicorn

Girls and unicorns have been linked in stories, art and on tapestries since at least the Middle Ages. Now you can find this beautifuunicornl, majestic creature on your emoji keyboard. One of the most colorful emoji options on the new additions, this beauty really stands out amongst the other animals.

 

 

 

3. Burrito 

Yes, you caBurriton now spam your friends and lovers with the image of that which you hold most dear — the glorious burrito. A TexMex staple, the new delicious addition to the food tab will keep us craving around the clock. The burrito is also accompanied by its sister, the taco. Together, these Taxas favorites are unstoppable.

 

 

The next Unicode update will apparently come in mid-2016, but until then, we all have dozens amazing new characters to send to our friends and family members day and night.
