Now Streaming: YouTube Music Awards

Recognizing music powerhouses is nothing new, MTV has the Video Music Awards, CMT has the Country Music Awards and let’s not forget about the infamous Emmy Awards. Starting in 2013 a new show can be added to the list, the YouTube Music Awards.

On Nov. 3, 2013 YouTube will debut the first annual YouTube Music Awards. The show will highlight a different side of music and include awards and live performances. The program will emphasize the You in YouTube by having a user focus. Users will be the sole group to vote for the awards and the categories are influenced by and even recognize the users.

One reason the YouTube Music Awards will standout from other shows is the innovative categories. Some examples areYouTube breakthrough and popular parody videos. The show will still have the typical Video of the Year award but it’s not just for celebrity music videos, one of the nominees is the “Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney Epic Rap Battles of History.”

The nominations for the show were compiled from YouTube data over the last 12 months based on video views, shares, comments and subscriptions. The introduction of these awards recognizes the importance of not only the digital world but consumer engagement.
