Young people are not just into food; they are fanatic about it. What used to be known as mealtime, has now become an art form. Millennials obsess over food, making sure even a photo of their breakfast has the perfect lighting . With over 80 millennials in America, roughly half call themselves “foodies,” proving that this is not just a fad, but a lifestyle.

Not only is cooking in general a trend, but for the first time, healthier options are idolized. On every corner, there seems to be a new juice, granola bar serving the next organic snack What ever happened to pizza and doughnuts? Most days these delicious treats will not even get a second look if they aren’t covered in some absurd toping. To millennials, it is more about the craft and creativity of a meal, rather than convenience. After all, who says microwave ramen is good anyways?

Millennials obsess over food on their social platforms to show off their creativity and culinary expertise. Forget buying Oreos at the store. Why not make your own (gluten-free, of course) and then share it on your blog?

Aside from cooking, even buying food has also become a dilemma. Millennials find it hard to trust the ingredients at large, chain grocery stories, so they tend to resort to the local, organic markets. Who knew Whole Foods, Central Market and Trader Joes would become the holy grail of millennial shopping? Lined with products that scream organic, paleo and locally grown, these groceries have certainly found their target audience.

In just a few short years, the millennial generation has created a new culture surrounding food. With healthier options, photographing meals and buying local goods, millennials have made being a foodie a way of life.
