Is Periscope About to Take Over?

Every year it seems that a new app comes out and takes over our social world. Lately, all the new buzz has been about Twitter’s newly released app called Periscope. Is Periscope about to take over next? What is so great about this new app and how can it help us in the social world? Here you can find out all about the new and upcoming app that is about to have a huge impact.

Founded by Stanford graduates, Joe Bernstein and Kayvon Beykpour in February 2014, Periscope officially launched in March 2015. A little bit of background: Twitter bought Periscope for $100 million after watching the app grow with 10 million users in just 5 short months after launching. The app can be downloaded through an apple or android device and can be watched on a computer screen or smartphone. The idea behind creating this app was a way people could see local and worldwide events taking place in real time, rather than just reading about it on Twitter. Live stream feeds can be watched from all over the world by anyone, anywhere. The app is extremely interactive, allowing users to comment, ask questions and send “hearts” in real time. There are also many features that come along with the app. For one thing the app allows you to search for broadcasters anywhere in the world by using the map, which shows where people are broadcasting live in that moment. Push notifications are also a great feature because it allows users to be notified anytime someone they are following starts a broadcast. It is also possible to recommend different broadcasts to different users so they cannot be missed. Lastly, broadcasts are saved up to 24 hours after the start of a broadcast, that way users can watch a stream after the fact.
