The Social Media Virtual Reality Room

Social media users are constantly flipping through tabs of all their open applications. MyWebRoom compiles a user’s selected social media feeds onto one social media virtual reality room. The page looks like an actual living room, and different elements in the room link to websites in efforts to ease user experience.

Layout

Users can design their own social media virtual reality room with whatever aesthetic they like. First, users pick a theme for their room. Some themes include industrial Brooklyn loft, French Riviera or Key West resort. The room theme does not serve a purpose, but it’s fun.

Next, users select interests to add to their room. These include categories like news, DIY, shopping and music. Each interest a user selects will add an object to their room. For example, selecting the reading interest will add a bookshelf to the room, and videos will add a television.

Next, users sync their favorite social media pages or websites to MyWebRoom. From there, users can enjoy a social media virtual reality room instead of scrolling through endless feeds.

An example of a mywebroom

MyWebRoom’s social media

MyWebRoom’s social media and website leave the viewer with more questions than answers. First and foremost, the capitalization of MyWebRoom (or myWebroom?) is inconsistent across social media. The Facebook page is called “Mywebroom,” but the Twitter is “myWebRoom.” The website uses “MyWebRoom,” but they also avoid the question where they can by capitalizing the entire word.

The Facebook page has unrelated articles that are shared on the company’s own MyWebRoom page. The company’s pages across all platforms seem like a personal social media page. They rarely share updates or marketing about their product. You would think that a company focused on social media would have better social media practices.

The idea of a social media virtual reality room is creative, but creative only gets you so far. The site could take off, but not without a major marketing and social media overhaul.
