AMA Nominees announced on Snapchat!?

You read that right! The AMA nominees were announced on Snapchat! 
This year, american music awards logothe AMAs are taking a different approach to announcing their awards. Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth traditionally announced the nominees on October 13 on Good Morning America on ABC. However, they were not the only route the American Music Awards took to spread the word about awards. After the airingpicture of charlie put and joe jonas with the snapchat logo on ABC, the AMA’s snapchat account took over the rest. Immediately after the live broadcast, AMA’s Snapchat account released 5 more nominees for the upcoming award show. Not only does Snapchat have features like the Discover page and Live feeds, but companies and brands have started playing the Snapchat game. Snapchat has now become a major part of branding and publicizing various events and companies…and has reached the music industry.

Who are the nominees?

  • Artist of the year: Luke Bryan, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, the Weeknd and Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Meghan Trainer
  • New Artist of the Year: Fetty Wapp, Sam Hunt, Tove Lo, Walk the Moon, The Weeknd
  • Song of the Year: (1) Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth “See You Again” (2) Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk!” (3) Ed Sheeran “Thinking Out Loud” (4) Taylor Swift Blank Space (5) The Weeknd “Can’t Feel My Face”
