My School Year

August 26th was the first day of classes and this year I was determined to start the year off right and stay on top of my work and studies from the start. I organized my school stuff into my backpack with colored folders, labeled notebooks, and plenty of pens and pencils. Within the first week I quickly got behind in some of my readings and my expectations of staying organized quickly failed. Junior year right from the start showed to be much more difficult than sophomore year.

At the start of the year I planned to graduate early so second semester I loaded up on classes, I was in a total of 20 academic hours. I also have to work part time outside of school, so combined with studying and going to class I never got a second of free time. I always strive to do my best in all my classes so I pushed through the stress and worked hard to get my schoolwork done and done well.

I had some classes this year that I truly enjoyed going to every week. A took a couple interesting film classes such as production and film acting. These classes were built around working in groups and with partners and I meet a lot of really cool people. I also really enjoyed the social media class I took. I have always used Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, but learning about how businesses use them and the strategies you can take with them showed to be both useful and interesting.

Junior year overall was filled with lots of stress and work but having interesting classes helped make that work more bearable. I learned how to prioritize my time better, and how to work on little sleep. I learned that its okay for everything not to be perfect and that you can’t fixate on the small thing. Even though my expectations the first day of school of staying on top of everything and staying organized was quickly turned down, the year overall was a success. Being a student at SMU is always a blessing and I find it impossible not to enjoy the year while going to school at SMU.
