Social Media in the Wilderness

I’ve wanted to spend a summer in Alaska since my junior year of high school. For years I had to keep putting it off for more concrete jobs and internships. Now I face the end of my education and the beginning of adulthood and I’ve run out of summers.

This dream must come to fruition. So I have chosen to spend my first three months of adulthood in ALASKA. Homer, Alaska more specifically. I’m going up mid June with my good friend Carl and we are going to find low wage jobs in town and spend our off time exploring the incredible Alaskan wilderness that surrounds us.

In an ideal world Carl and I would work at a wilderness lodge. Most Alaskan businesses are behind the times technologically. Few wilderness lodges have any sort of social or online media presence aside from a basic website. After researching 8 wilderness Lodges in the Homer, AK area I found that only one of them has anything outside of a website online.

Now I am trying to contact wilderness lodge owners. I’m offering to work for them for free as an online communication dude(for lack of a better word) this semester in exchange for summer employment. If this happens it will be an incredible learning experience. I will keep you all informed.
