Announcing YouTubeTV

YouTube TV:

YouTube is cutting the cord. On Tuesday, February 28th, the company announced their new on-demand streaming site: YouTube TV. Although there has been a clear departure from traditional cable, this offer suits the modern consumer. YouTubeTV is offered at $35/month, so it is extremely affordable.

The bundle streams ABC, CBS, Fox, and many other major networks. At this point, the service will be available in the “largest U.S. markets,” with plans to expand in the future. Youtube CEO, Susan Wajociki explained at a recent press event, “There’s no question that millennials love great TV content, but what we’ve seen is they don’t want to watch it in the traditional setting.” Similar to rival over-the-top services, users can watch on any device.

Cord Cutting:

This announcement coincides with a time in which many Americans are cutting the cord. As many industry insiders note, this could truly be the death of cable. A study shows that nearly ¼ of American homes don’t subscribe to traditional cable. For this reason, services like YouTube Tv are extremely desirable.

Competition:

YouTubeTV will offer users a cloud DVR. This feature will serve as a virtual, allowing users to record and save as many shows as they’d kike for up to nine months. Additionally, YouTube will capitalize on its relationship with Google. As a result, YouTube TV will use Google’s artificial intelligence to find shows that users want to watch and make targeted recommendations.
