Smart Appliances on the Rise

Could Smart Appliances Revolutionize Our Households?

Remember the Disney movie Smart House, where a teen wins a fully automated dream house?  Well, that smart house might become a reality.  The smart technology used in your phone or tablet has made its way to household appliances.  The rise of dishwashers, refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other appliances with smart technology capabilities will soon be apparent.  The incentive behind these smart appliances is convenience and ease for otherwise daunting household chores.  Many of these appliances have the ability to track energy consumptions and have the ability to be controlled directly from a smartphone or tablet.

Nest, a company recently acquired by Google, has created a smart thermostat, among other appliances.  The thermostat does not only control the temperature, but also has the ability to be controlled and monitored via smart device.  This smart appliance can also connect to Wi-Fi to analyze the weather in order to maintain the correct indoor environment. The sleek and modern thermostat cost about $249.

GE Brillion Connected Appliances is General Electric’s new line of Smart appliances. Using an app on your smartphone or tablet, you can remotely turn your oven on or off, change your oven’s temperature, and get notifications when your food is ready.  The ovens range in price from about $2,300 to about $3,800.  While the line only includes smart ovens at this time, the company plans to expand the smart technology to other appliances within the next year. LG Smart Refrigerator

LG has also released an extensive line of smart appliances including washers, dryers, ovens, and refrigerators.  The Smart Thinq Refrigerator has a screen on the door that, when connected to the Internet, can tell you what food is inside, when food is close to reaching its expiration date, and the ingredients you need to buy in order to cook a specific recipe.  This information can also be accessed from a smartphone or tablet.   This smart appliance cost about $3,500.

Whether it is a big or small household appliance, it soon may be developed into a smart appliance.  This type of appliance has the ability to simplify household chores and make your complicated life just a bit easier. Soon the trend will expand to all elements of the household.

  1. When I was little, I always wanted a house like SmartHouse up until the end when she turned on her owners. Hopefully, they will have worked out all the kinks by the time this becomes super popular. Can’t wait to see how these work!
