Social Media Jobs?

Unknown

People have a hard time believing that people can get hired for a social media job. In fact, even I have had a hard time grasping the idea that is real and it is demanding. In theory it just sounds like it would just be all fun and no real work, but in reality this is not the case.

It is a common misconception that social media is not a real job nor work. It is often perceived this way because of a few reasons. The first being that people see your job as something most people do for fun, and people typically don’t categorize work and fun together. The average gal uses social media outlets as an escape and distraction from their work. Or these gals are using social media to catch up with their pals, share photos, and take selfies. All these things we do for fun! How could this possibly be someones job?! They wonder.

This leads to the second reason. It hard to explain and persuade someone that social media is a real job. As people question your role and ask you what you actually do all day, they lose interest. As you go down the list of all the things you do everyday to promote your company, they’re bored and checking their Facebook and Instagram. Your points just don’t make their case but it really is a real job. It takes time and creativity to manage all social media outlets for a company and it is important to do so in today’s society. Someone’s got to do it!

The last reason why social media isn’t seen as a real job is because it can be hard to show the connection between social media marketing and sales. But you must show your company and customers all the results, small and large! You need to let everyone know that you are making an impact because job security with this position can be iffy. A major question that has been raised is whether or not social media marketing is actually stimulating a profit for a company or is it just creating more brand awareness. Oreo has done a fantastic job with their social media marketing and it has shown. The marketing they did during the SuperBowl was brilliant and their Twitter conversation with AMC Theaters gained a lot of attention. Let the public know you are doing something and let your creativity shine! Showing all your success is the only way to ensure that one day social media will be considered a real job by everyone!
