Going Live On TikTok

It is no secret that Instagram Live has taken over our quarantine daily lives. If you were following along with the NFL draft, then you would’ve noticed a different kind of live session pop up. But, not on Instagram. TikTok is getting in on live streaming too—but, there are rules.

The Rules

Before you can go live on TikTok, it’s important to check your follower count. You can only go live if you have at least 1,000 followers. In comparison, Instagram has no follower requirement to go live, making TikTok’s live requirement much more selective. This function brings another asset to the increasingly popular TikTok. Where Instagram is being overloaded with people going live every day, it is only a matter of time before Instagram considers implementing a follower requirement just like TikTok.

TikTok Trading

Going live on TikTok also allows viewers to send you “gifts”. This includes sending digital currency that can be turned into legitimate money. In theory, this should allow users to fundraise. But, will this function backfire and let users scam followers for cash?

Brands For Inspiration

If you’re a brand that meets the requirement and looking for inspiration—check out Chipotle’s guacamole-related content. The fast-food chain partnered with David Dobrik, an online personality known for his content originally posted to Vine, to boost their brand awareness on the app. This new feature may be the tool that sets you apart amongst your competition. The hardest part, though, is getting that follower requirement first.
