JCPenney Asks for Forgiveness

Social media sites have gone crazy with JCPenney asking for forgiveness and to be given another chance via a new ad, “It’s no secret

2013 has yet to be the year for this retailer, but with new changes in their leadership and a new creative agency, JCPenney is hoping to not only gain back customers but to create new ones.

Since Monday, JCPenney’s heart felt apology has the social media world buzzing. They have utilized Facebook and Twitter to connect with their customers in a way that many other companies wish they could.

JCPenney’s Facebook page, “We Are Listening” post has gained over 55,000 likes and almost 4,000 shares. People have felt the need to be heard leaving over 18,000 comments.

Twitter has had just as much attention with the hashtag #jcpListens. Today it was the top trending topic with people sharing both negative and positive tweets. JCPenney has been quick to reply to every tweet personalizing and asking for advice. Their interaction with consumers is proving  that they are listening, but will it work?

Many of JCPenney’s customers are an older demographic so YouTube, Facebook and Twitter may not gain their attention, but when the commercial airs on TV it will stop them in their tracks.

JCPenney has a long way to go, but admitting to their mistake is the first step in the right direction.
