Tryin’ To Make Me Go To Rehab

Passages Malibu

Let’s face it. Whether we admit it or not celebrities seem to rule the universe that we live in. No matter how much we stalk them or attempt to give them zero attention, they still manage to seem like this is their world and we are just living in it. But what happens when their world comes crashing down and invades our world or normalcy?

As a California native, it is a compliment that everyone wants to come dig their toes in the sand and try to go celeb watching in the star infested Beverly Hills or Hollywood. However, our beloved coast is not only crawling with tourists, but is now becoming over crowded with lavish rehab centers for people like Lindsay Lohan or Charlie Sheen to seek help.

Known for its privacy and lavish homes that overlook the Pacific Ocean, Malibu offers prime real estate for people who want to live year round in a coastal paradise. Like in any city, people pride themselves on where they call home and want it to maintain the most positive reputation it possibly can, but now Malibu residents are feeling a tad annoyed that their area is now becoming recognized as the rehab oasis.

It is not just the fact that Malibu is becoming crowded with celebs seeking treatment but it is also the fact that many of the patients that are receiving treatment meander around near by neighborhoods and cause disturbances to the residences and their families. Paparazzi? Now that is a whole issue within itself. People are feeling like they are being invaded and forced out of their humble abodes because of the swarms of  paparazzi desperately trying to snap shots of celebs entering and leaving treatment. The biggest treatment center, Passages, is the most popular among celebs with costs that start at $64,000 a month. Obviously that is a pretty steep price to the average human but if you’re a star, hey why not it’s only money right?

Regardless of the price or size of the rehab centers it’s the point that they are invading people’s homes and privacy that is becoming annoying and rude. Malibu’s reputation is starting to become tainted since “rehab” is now the first word that pops in people’s heads instead of “beaches” or “vacation sport.” It’s unfortunate that we can’t always control situations such as this but hopefully the problem doesn’t increase or spread to cause more problems real estate problems in California and other states.
