Pinterest Holds Its Ground as One of the Top Social Platforms

Pinterest has recently become one of the highest preforming platforms on social media. Even with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as its competitors, Pinterest is continuing to grow. The social outlet now has over 150 million users, with an increase of over 30 percent in the past year. Alongside its number of users, the poential for Pinterst is growing as well.

Pinterest Expands Their Target Audience

Pinterest Increase of Users One of the most surprising statistics is that over half of the people on Pinterest are from outside the U.S. As a social media platform developed in the states, this is a huge accomplishment for CEO Ben Silbermann.  Not only does this give Pinterest a larger reach, but it also continues to expand the opportunities of the site. By creating a broader community, Pinterest is further its development with users, brands and influencers.

Along with their increase of users, Pinterest has seen a growth in the number of men consumers. This once unreached demographic has expanded  by over 70% in the last year. Even though male users are less than half of their consumer base, this brings several new opportunities for Pinterest. After the release of “Buyable Pins” in June 2015, Pinterest has seen several products become successful. Now, the platform has the numbers to specifically target men on their site. Before, most sales were women’s clothing, jewelry and home products, but with the male demographic increasing, Pinterest has a new audience to focus on.

Revenue Growth Follows With Increase of UsersPinterest Increase of Users

With this in mind, Pinterest will also begin focusing on “Promoted Pins” to improve revenue growth. These will encourage brands to begin promoting their pins, using subtle advertising to catch Pinterest users’ attention. The promoted pins appear in a user’s regular stream, disguising themselves as a standard pin. This gives businesses a new, innovative way to target pinners based on their interests and likes.

Pinterest has become a perfect example of how user growth can improve other areas of a social platform. With 50 million additional users, Pinterest is now able to target new audiences (both abroad and male users) and increase the sites use of both buyable and promoted pins. Something simple such as gaining more individual users has created unlimited opportunity for Pinterest.
