What is Coin?

If that sounds trippy to you, have no fear. While this is a fairly new market, there has been an increase in variety of digital banking options. Coin, is a digital card that stores multiples cards on it to facilitate payment transactions. The user can push a button on the card to switch between stored cards.

The card is connected to the Coin App, which serves as the primary method for managing your Coin account. Digital credit cards are a unique tool and allow for security features that a plastic card cannot provide.

The Coin card is has slight Bluetooth connection to your phone, and if your phone is ever too far away from your card, it will beep. Coin is available for $50 pre-order and $100 when the product is released later in 2014.

For some, the idea of having all your cards stored on a single device sounds intimidating. Coin CEO Kanishk Parashar believes that this process is no different than having our financial information stored on our computers, tablets, and mobile devices. His aim is to provide consumers an easy method for managing their finances.

Overall, the world of digital credit cards is extremely new. Coin was designed with technology that was developed in 2010. Other digital wallet devices include Google Wallet, Apple’s Passbook, Square, Isis, and Chirpify. If you are unfamiliar with this technology you are not the only one. Not only are these apps newer, but these methods can seem very intimidating to people especially if they refuse to purchase items through the internet.

The difference between these apps and Coin, is that Coin is a physical product. Many of these apps simply allow a way of organizing money through an app. Coin also isn’t another form of payment, instead it merges the credit and debit cards you already own into one streamlined device.

This product is definitely a game changer and the age of digital credit cards is here. Will you be on of the first to pre-order your Coin today?

  1. This is a very interesting article. I have never heard of this app. I would be too skeptical to use it, but it will be interesting to see if this becomes widely used. It is crazy how everything is turning digital these days.

  2. This is a very timely article for myself because I lost my debit card this weekend. The idea of a digital card is sounding much more convenient!
