First it was stories, mental health, and now… shopping?
Instagram is adding features’ which is separating them from other social media platforms. The social media platform is now adding shopping tags to boost product discovery.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Instagram has now released shoppable tags for photos. Photos that retailers have posted will now have a “tap to view products” tag in the bottom left of the pictured image. Once tapped, another tag will appear showing the price of the product tapped. Users can then tap again to find out more information on the product.
Are you ready for the most convenient feature of them all? If you want to purchase the product, you can tap through to the link of where to buy the product on the web.
This feature is up and coming, as it is at the first stage and more focused on individuals. As of now, only 16 selected partners are able to access the new tools. Instagram’s team is working with them to upload the images with the new feature.
It is a simple way to encourage online shopping, which is the trend of the century. Like Pinterest, Instagram is focusing on boosting product discovery on their platform.
According to TechCrunch, the platform doesn’t focus on making revenue off this feature.
“Instagram won’t take a cut of purchases, and instead plans to monetize the product by later allowing brands to pay to show their shoppable photos to people who don’t follow.”
It is no surprise that Instagram is on the eCommerce train. According to the Instagram for Business blog, the platform has more than 200,000 advertisers reaching customers on their platform.
The dreaded phrase, “link in bio” will be a caption in the past. Women, and men, with an Instagram, a shopping addiction, and a credit card will be a dangerous trio now thanks to Instagram.
