Instagram’s new feature makes it even more similar to snapchat. The new feature allows users to send disappearing photos and videos to other users. Instagram’s new feature is very similar to the features that the competitor app, Snapchat offers.
Instagram’s new feature allows recipients to watch the message once, and replay the message once before it completely disappears. The new feature allows users to send the disappearing messages to individual users or groups through direct message. The videos or pictures can also have filters or doodles on them. Users will also be notified if the recipient takes a screenshot of the photo or video, just like Snapchat.
Instagram’s new feature comes just two months after Instagram launched it’s Stories feature. This feature is also very similar to a feature that Snapchat already offers its users. Instagram has almost matched every feature of Snapchat.
In addition to the new disappearing feature, Instragram also adds Instagram Live. This feature allows users to broadcast videos to their followers in real-time. The Instagram Live videos stop immediately after the stream stops. Instragram hopes this will encourage people to post more frequently rather than for big events. Users will also feel more urgency to watch the live videos since they will disappear. Instagram will also add an explore page featuring the best live videos happening right then. Instagram will send notifications to interested followers to let them know when someone is going live. Viewers will be able to comment and like the video as it is live. Users can stream a live video for up to an hour. This new feature is similar to the Facebook live feature.
Instagram added these new features to broaden their scope of service. Instagram has turned into a curated service for people’s best pictures. The new features are in efforts of trying to make Instagram more intimate and less polished.
