With endless possibilities in the online world in 2022, it can be difficult to reach those target audiences on different platforms for different ages. Not to mention, there are tons of platforms to keep up with as well, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Reddit, and more. However, each of these social platforms can be manipulated to reach different age demographics. Thus, here are three different platforms for different age demographics that digital communicators can use to best reach their target audiences.
Different platforms for different ages: TikTok and Gen Z
The most popular, engaging, and influential platform for the younger audience is TikTok. The most active users on TikTok are those between the ages of 10 and 29. This consists of both Generation Z and Millennial generations. TikTok is how most of this age group consumes news, makes purchases, and form opinions. If the target audience is within the younger age demographic, TikTok is the way to get through.
Different platforms for different ages: Instagram and the 30-49 audience
Surprisingly, the largest age group of users on Instagram is an older demographic. In fact, one-third of internet users between the ages of 30 and 49 use Instagram. For digital communicators trying to reach a more mature, financially established audience, Instagram is the way to go.
Different platforms for different ages: Facebook and Baby Boomers
Almost everyone has at least one grandma on Facebook. Users over the age of 45 make up 36% of all Facebook users in the United States. Consequently, the younger generations are least engaged in Facebook than any other social media platform. When trying to reach the older demographic, Facebook is essential in digital communication strategy.
