When most people download TikTok, they do not understand why so may people are “addicted.” However, once people scroll for a few minutes, they are trapped by the apps algorithm.
As of 2022, TikTok has over 1 billion monthly users. That is a seventh of the global population. TikTok is unique from other social media platforms because of the quick, few second videos that come up on your For You Page.
What is TikTok’s Algorithm?
TIkTok’s algorithm is defined as “a stream of videos curated to your interests,” by the platform. Whatever video you watch, automatically creates this stream of videos that will appear next. This process is never-ending, and changes with each view, like, comment, and follow.
TikTok’s algorithm, while it can be difficult to understand, is very useful for brand awareness. There are two sides to the algorithm. On one hand, your video could get lost in the millions of videos on this app. However, your video can also end up on a random customer’s for you page, just based on their activity. This algorithm opens the door to finding new customers and interacting with the target audience of a company.
Marketing Through TikTok
So, how do you use this for as marketing for your brand? Once again, companies must look at their target audience and find their interests. Since no two users will have the same For You page, you must create videos following trends curated to your audience. Following trends is easier than it sounds. Start by finding trending sounds or hashtags. Then you should understand the trends associated with the sounds or hashtags. Finally, you can modify these trends to be relatable to your audience.
Overall, TikTok requires some research into understanding the social media platform itself. However, once you understand how TikTok’s algorithm works, you can start curating your brands (or your own) content to the right audience. Click here for more information on why you need TikTok.
