Let’s face it, life these days has been completely turned upside-down. COVID-19 has changed almost every aspect of our everyday lives and adapting to this new “normal” can be challenging. Young professionals have found themselves now working remotely or better known as working from home. This brings about new obstacles that many people have never faced in the office. There is an abundance of new distraction and realistically, you most likely aren’t the only person in your apartment working from home. It is important to establish a work routine and good habits during this time. Here are some tips on how to be productive when working from home!
1. Build a Permanent Workplace
The key to being productive when working from home is to establish a permanent workplace. Designate an area of your home that is specifically for getting work done. Whether it is a spare bedroom, office, or the corner of your living room, be sure your workspace is quiet so you can focus on the task at hand.
2. Set Real Work Hours
The hours you work from home should mirror the hours you usually go into the office. It is essential that you wake up early and get your day started. Keeping yourself accountable and not procrastinating the workday will lower stress and increase productivity. It is equally as important that you set a time to sign off work every day. Creating a work-life balance is essential to be productive when working from home.
3. Dress For Success
This does not mean you should dress business professional every day, just don’t stay in you PJs. Put on a comfortable but presentable outfit and maybe brush your hair as well! This will psychologically prepare you for work and you will be ready to handle any kind of video chat or check-in if it presents itself.
4. Take a Break
Lastly, it is important to give yourself breaks. Just like in the office, make sure to take time for lunch and an afternoon coffee. Being home gives you ample time to cook a healthy home-cooked lunch. Here are some delicious lunch ideas! It is also always a good idea to take a break from the screens and get some fresh air outside. These small but important breaks will help to increase productivity.
