Instagram’s recent update allows its users to post stories, but does that mean that users will use this feature in place of Snapchat?
Instagram and Snapchat are popular applications that young adults use on daily basis. Instagram allows individuals to post photos and show off their photography skills. Snapchat allows individuals to send photos to friends with direct messages on them. Instagram is now Snapchat’s competitor with its most recent update that allows users to post stories just like Snapchat.
Snapchat stories allow users to post videos and photos for all of their Snapchat friends to see. These posts delete immediately after 24 hours. Instagram now has this feature as well.Instagram’s new update makes Snapchat a competing brand. However, I do not believe that Instagram will ever replace Snapchat. Why? Because these applications are still very different. They are b beneficial in different ways.
First of all, Snapchat is an efficient way to stay up to date on what is happening on a personal and national level. Snapchat’s Live Stories allow Snapchatters around the world to post on a live feed at different events and locations. This allows users to stay up to date on current events. I always know what is going on in the world because of the Snapchat Live Stories.
Snapchat is also more personable than Instagram. Everything is temporary. All posts have a time limit. Also, accounts are private and users have to be accepted to send and receive snap chats. Snapchat allows its users to put colored filters, the current time, local weather and speed overlays on all snaps. They can also create geofilters. According to Snapchat, these are “special overlays that communicate the “where and when” of a Snap in a fun way”. These arel characteristics that Instagram lacks, even with the new Instagram update.
Instagram is unique in a different way than Snapchat. Users can post photos and videos permanently on their accounts. They can edit their photos and share them with family and friends. In addition, users can like and comment on photos. Consequently, none of these things can be done on Snapchat.
I am not trying to say that one of these applications is better than the other. They are both good in different ways. With that being said, Instagram will never replace Snapchat.
