Ever since Instagram added stories to their app, the world has been patiently waiting Snapchat’s comeback. This week, Snapchat released a new feature called Snapchat Story Playlist.
According to The Verge, Snapchat Story Playlist is the first step to reducing clutter. This new feature let’s users create a playlist of friends’ stories to watch.
Discover Pages- swipe right
Discover pages feature a variety of videos, stories, photos and more from big-time publishers. Discover Pages no longer get a first class seat on Snapchat airlines. A user can now access Discover Pages by swiping right. However, it is likely publishers who post Discover Pages will see a decline in viewership.
Auto Advance no more
Snapchat previously operated so that every story would be viewed with one click. . Snapchat saw that users were selecting which story to watch regardless of auto advance. As Snapchat grows, users have more friends. It could take hours to watch every story in a feed.
Snapchat made a surprising decision to remove this feature. Why? They made money from advertisements in between stories on auto advance.
Snapchat Story Playlist
This is where Snapchat Story Playlist comes into play. Users can add stories they want to watch to a playlist. To add a story to a playlist, tap the thumbnail next to a friend’s name. After a user creates the playlist, he or she can press play at the bottom of the screen.
P.S. Just as auto advance featured advertisements, so will snapchat story playlist.
Can users see when their story is added to a friends playlist?
The answer to that is no. That might disappoint some users, but users can still see who views their story.
It will be interesting to see if users utilize Snapchat Story Playlist. Snapchat certainly hopes it will keep users on their app and away from their competitor’s.
