The Top 5 Christmas Movies to Watch This December

December is arguably the best month of year. So bright. So Merry. So many ugly Christmas sweater parties. Nothing says “holiday season” like curling up with a cup of hot chocolate, a fuzzy blanket, and a Christmas movie. But what movie to watch? Here are the top 5 (arguably).

5. Miracle on 34th Street. Possibly the most underrated Christmas movie, Miracle on 34th Street is a 90s classic. The little girl is sassy and adorable, and Kris Kringle is the most lovable. Best scene: when Brian owns in court, Kris is set free, and everyone goes crazy with excitement. Great story, great cast, and a very merry ending.

4. Home Alone. Such a funny Christmas movie. Like REALLY funny. Macaulay Culkin is the kid we all wanted to be. The “sticky bandits” are the perfect combination of creepy, hilarious, and idiotic. Also, this movie is incredibly quotable. “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animals.”

3. Elf. It’s rare for a new Christmas movie to become a classic, but Elf managed to become a holiday tradition. Will Ferrell outdid himself as buddy the elf. It’s so quotable, it’s the Mean Girls of Christmas movies. Best scene: when Buddy calls the little person in the meeting an angry elf. So. Funny.

2. The Polar Express. People tend to react very strongly to this movie; they either love it or hate it. Guess which side I fall on? This movie gives me those happy, bubbly, magical Christmas feelings. That feeling tops all comedy or romance. Best scene: the hot chocolate dance scene on the train. Can’t watch it without a cup in hand.

1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas. SPECIFICALLY THE CARTOON VERSION. It’s short, but the most classic Christmas movie that has ever existed. The storyline is perfect. Dr. Seuss is a genius. Max the dog is the cutest puppy ever. Cindy loo-hoo is the most adorable. I weep Christmas tears every time with how perfect this movie is. Tearing up just thinking about it. Funniest moment: when the Grinch and Max are riding the sleigh down into the city. and max shows up looking like this: 5adba52a6692baa3f8d5cb54e8ee3950“I tried.”
