For this year’s Safer Internet Day, Meta implemented an update to Instagram’s security. Safer Internet Day is an initiative promoting safer and more responsible usage of online technology and social media. The application announced several new features to make the platform more user-friendly and safer. From improved content management to a new Security Check-up tool, Instagram is on its way to becoming a simpler and safer platform.
Your Activity
Although this does not apply to Instagram’s security, they have taken strides to update the usability of the platform. Instagram has updated its activity dashboard, including a new bulk delete option. Now, users are able to choose posts or content to delete with a simple checkbox process. You can delete one or all of your pictures at once by simply checking them off. In addition, the Your Activity center is neatly organized, including interactions with other users, previous searches, time spent on the app, etc.
Security Checkup
Users with hacked accounts have had access to Instagram’s Security Checkup interface since July. Now, it will be available to all users across the platform. The checkup takes you through steps to ensure the safety of your account. A few of these steps include checking login activity, updating profile information, confirming external accounts attached to your profile, etc. To take their safety measures even further, certain countries will have the option of enabling two-factor authentication, in partnership with WhatsApp. This will add an even stronger security blanket for those who fear being hacked or logged out of their account.
Regaining Access to Accounts
Lastly, Instagram is working on making it easier for users to regain access to accounts that they have been logged out of or that have been hacked. This new feature will allow account holders to ask friends to help verify and confirm their identity within the app. The process will require you to enter an old password prior to selecting which users you would like to verify your identity.
Security and innovation are two of the biggest struggles that social media apps face. Instagram is excelling beyond its competitors by constantly implementing new security features to ensure the safety of your account and information. To learn more, visit Instagram’s blog.
