The Rise of TikTok Influencers

TikTok influencers were seemingly nonexistent until recent years. Although there were creators on the platform that had a large following, their prominence exponentially grew when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. TikTok saw a significant increase in popularity when the pandemic broke out, with a growth of 180% among 15-25-year-old users. As the number of users grew, so did the craze over TikTok influencers, including Charli D’Amelio, Addison Rae, and Josh Richards. Many TikTok influencers are expanding into different fields and making millions of dollars in the process.

Charli D’Amelio

Charli D’Amelio began posting dance videos on TikTok in June 2019 and went viral soon after. She is now the highest-paid TikTok influencer, making estimated annual earnings of $17.5M at just 17 years old. Aside from TikTok, she has several other ventures she is pursuing. D’Amelio has several brand deals, one of her most lucrative being with Dunkin Donuts. She and her sister, Dixie, launched a clothing line, Social Tourist, in partnership with Hollister. On top of all that, her family has their own Hulu series, The D’Amelio Show. According to the Wall Street Journal, D’Amelio has earned more than some of the biggest CEOs of publicly traded companies.

Addison Rae

Addison Rae makes annual earnings of about $8.5M. Her rise to fame as a TikTok influencer originated from her dance videos and she quickly rose in followers soon after joining the platform. She has her very own makeup line, Item Beauty, and is the main spokesperson for American Eagle. She recently landed a role on Netflix’s He’s All That, sparking a new deal for Rae to star in several upcoming Netflix movies.

Josh Richards

Josh Richards makes an estimated annual earning of about $5M. Richards became famous mainly due to his lip-sync videos but has since made several strides as a businessman. He co-hosts a Barstool Sports podcast, BFFs, alongside Dave Portnoy. In addition, he founded a venture capital firm, started a talent management company, created his own energy drink, and much more. Richards is currently in the market for his very own L.A. mansion, with guidance from the Oppenheim Group.
