Once an “ad free” social media platform, sponsored ads have slowly sprouted on Instagram feeds in the 18 months after Facebook acquired the photo-sharing startup in 2012. Cautious for users who may become upset with advertisements cluttering their feeds, Instagram has taken measures to introduce paid advertising gradually.
So what has Instagram developed next for ads? Carousel Ads.
What are Instagram Carousel Ads?
Instagram Carousel Ads are one of the new features that will allow marketers and advertisers alike to roll multiple print ads to mobile devices. According to Instagram’s blog on Wednesday, their intent is that these new ad features are “a new way for brands to share more images with people interested in their posts.” In a nutshell– the feature allows current users to clearly spot sponsored ads, swipe through the multiple images displayed, and interact with the content. The “learn more” link is also a notable element as businesses can add a website link to offer more content on the product or service shown.

What Does this Mean for Businesses?
In a world where people are continually connected to their mobile devices and social networks, Instagram has found both a useful and engaging way to allow businesses to interact with their key customers. This is made possible as brands can break down their products, ingredients, or features through the carousel photos. Brands will now be able to experience a better version of Instagram– one that is native and doesn’t completely ruin a feed with a flood of sponsored ad content. Whew!
