Here we are, two weeks into April and months into a seemingly endless pandemic. For those of us who have gotten bored in quarantine, here are some ideas for inspiration.
Try a new activity
After a while, the same things can get old and leave you bored in quarantine. You can only watch Tiger King or Friends so many times. But, since you’re already at home, what better time to try out something new to do?
One suggestion, popularized by the video app TikTok, is to bake something for yourself or those you’re quarantining with to enjoy. Even if it doesn’t turn out the way you want it, the process is sure to be fun (and maybe a bit messy!) nonetheless. Check out this article for recipe ideas.
If baking isn’t your cup of tea, try your hand at a craft when you get bored in quarantine. Making masks is a great idea that is both entertaining and helpful. It’s simple enough, even if you don’t own a sewing machine. This Good Housekeeping article gives you step-by-step instructions to make a mask with just a bandana. Pinterest is also a free source for ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
Perfect your digital and writing skills before returning to work
Just because you’re bored in quarantine doesn’t mean work is off the table. So, use this time sharpen up some basic skills you may have forgotten, or learn new ones.
Writing is one of those foundational skills everyone needs in their toolset, and it can almost always be improved. A simple way to brush up your writing is by keeping a log or journal each day and writing about things that happened that day, how you felt, and more. You could also take this time to practice creative writing or try your hand at these exercises.
Lastly, use this opportunity to better your digital and graphic design skills. Canva offers stylish templates for almost anything you need to make, and Adobe is also helpful in providing tutorials and help for their apps on their website.
No matter what you decide to try, just remember you’re doing great and stepping out of your comfort zone.
