It seems as if every major tech company is releasing their version of a perfect smartphone. Of course, Apple has their latest iPhone to entice its cult following, and Samsung has released their new Galaxy S5. But a company that seems to have fallen off everyone’s radar is Blackberry. Unless you are working for a major corporation in New York City, Blackberry phones are particularly hard to come by. The Passport is Blackberry’s attempt to reach the masses and regain their place back at the top of the tech world. But how does it compare to its competitors?
The Passport has a lot of elements going for it. It is clear that with the company’s tragic track record, Blackberry’s design team did lots, and I mean lots, of research. At first glance what strikes the user most is the Passport’s ginormous screen. According to Crackberry.com, the display is a whopping 4.5 inches with a 1440×1440 LCD display. This means that the phone lives up to its name, being literally the size of a passport. Now some people may think the size is a bit daunting, but with a consumer based comprised of corporate business-makers, staring a larger screen compared to a smaller one is ideal for eye-strain.
Compared to Blackerry’s latest models, the Passport also has other functions ideal for the everyday worker. YAHOO! Tech, which tends to give honest but sometimes brutal reviews to the latest in installments in the industry, even applauded Blackberry for their efforts.
The keyboard on the Passport is a touchpad as well as being a keyboard, making this model for Blackberry its most versatile yet. But what’s even cooler is when a user turns the phone sideways, the keyboard becomes a scroller. Never saw that one coming.
It’s clear that the Passport is geared towards the corporate user with options that make it fun to use. With a battery life of 3 days, and no I’m not joking, Blackberry did its best job yet creating a smartphone perfect for a generation that constantly needs access to a phone.
It seems as if things are looking better for Blackberry, and with a rough year with a hiring a new CEO and stock plummets, maybe the Passport will bring this company back on top. What do you think?
