Youtube and Paid Subcriptions:
Youtube is one of the most successful social media sites in the world. Currently it has over 5 billion visitors per day. This number is only going up. This year youtube will start offering an experimental paid subscriptions for users.
However this subcription based plan will be focused more on individual channels which the user can choose. So instead of paying over a hundred dollars a month for an entire cable package, YouTube is offering an alternative for people. So for example a user could choose to pay for only CBS and HBO is they are offered by youtube. Furthermore Youtube would charge between 1-5 dollars for a subscription which is a lot cheaper than other options like Netflix and basic cable.
If utilized correctly this could compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and regular TV. This will cater to the people who primarily watch only a few channels and shows. With more and more tv shows moving online it is only natural that networks would eventually try to cater to a more internet oriented generation based on video streaming.
