Google Glasses have always attracted the public’s attention. However, many believe and have considered that they will not survive on the market. Price is a big problem and the cost does have a lot of power in making a difference between a ‘big boom’ or a ‘complete failure’. The U.S might be a good market to begin with, but will the ‘Google Glasses‘ survive at an international level ?
If in fact the Google Glasses do survive at an international level, then social media will be destined to change as well..
The Next Social Media
How will it be like?
Let’s go 10 years into the future. –>
You wake up and put on your Google Glasses.
You say,
open my Facebook,
it obeys,
Post that ‘I just woke up’,
it obeys,
‘tell me the weather now’, it obeys, and so fourth.
The point is that instead of doing these things on a laptop or a cell phone, like we normally do, we would be using the ‘Google Glasses’ instead. As a result, all social media sites would have to then adapt to voice commands in order to function properly with the ‘Google Glasses‘. In essence, the way all of our social media sites look and function would change in the future in order to adapt into the style of the ‘Google Glasses’.
Thus the glasses themselves would be a great experience for all users. However, in order for this product to even make the marketplace it must first lower its price. E-bay, which is suppose to be the cheapest place to purchase them, has them all for at least 3,200 bucks. This is a lot of cash to own your very own ‘Google Glasses’, not to mention that people don’t even know if they truly want them, like the iPhone for instance, people did go crazy for iPhones, but the real question is whether or not it will be the same story with the ‘Google Glasses’. I do believe that if the price is lowered to that of an iPhone, let’s say $800 bucks, then I do believe the ‘Google Glasses’ stand a chance to become the next popular device, just like the iPhone did. If the price remains the same, then they are doomed.
Furthermore, a recent study showed that many people did not like the ‘Google Glasses’ because of the way they look. This had nothing to do with price, simply that the ‘Google Glasses’ had this creepy look on them. In essence, these glasses attracted to much attention from the general public. What would be the point of taking a picture with the glasses if every time you did people would stare at you with a creepy look.
The solution was to make the new “Google Glass Sunshade.” These new glasses look more like sunglasses and provide better quality when taking pictures in the day light. However, the real purpose of ‘Google Glass Sunshades’ was to make the actual glasses less creepy looking. Since both the glass and the camera are now black, both blend in and you can’t really notice the camera unless you pay a lot of attention to the individual wearing them. The result, less creepy to wear in public.

I definitely agree that the Google Glasses have a creepy look. I would NOT pay $3,200 to wear them. While I do think the sunglasses version is a step in the right direction, I still think they should consider improving their design to be more desirable. Maybe they could introduce a different line for men and women?
