We live in a society were everything is about the brand. You say phone; people automatically think iPhone, computer = Mac, yoga = Lululemoon, running = Nike, the ultimate driving machine = BMW. These brands have been able to capitalize on a slogan or create a link between what they do and who they are as a company. So why are we any different?
We need to train ourselves to think like we are a brand and everything we do reflects our brand. This may seem so obtuse, but as graduation season begins to approach you have to wonder how many people are truly ready to embark on the next season of their lives.
If we begin to utilize the people and tools around us to brand ourselves, it would make the process of exposure and job hunting easier. We shouldn’t wait until we are looking for that connection or big break to start making a name for ourselves, we need to start now.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Who around you is doing what you want to do? Are you friends with them? Have you connected with them on social media?
- What is it about them that draws you to them?
- What steps can you take to become who he or she is?
Technology has made it easy for us through Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and LinkedIn to brand ourselves. Don’t wait to start cleaning up your social media sites when you think someone is watching you. Begin to use these sites to market who you are, your interests, and your expertise on a subject.
Think of yourself as a brand…what do you want to say about yourself?
