Companies worldwide are taking advantage of International Women’s Day. Across all social platforms, companies like Apple, Reebok, and Absolut are using March 8 to push female-empowering messaging. Even if these companies highlighting women today are not normally female-focused, they are using today to do so.
About International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Their mission has multiple platforms including women in tech, sport, work, and health, among others. Overall, they aim to celebrate women’s achievements worldwide. Companies, in response, are doing the same.
Company Examples
Absolut, for example, launched a campaign with RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network promoting safe drinking. In doing so, Absolut highlights the negative side of drinking through empowering women. During the era of #MeToo, Absolut utilized March 8 to make an important, yet informational, comment.
Reebok also jumped on the day. Reebok x Array combined forces through an event titled “I̶T̶’̶S̶ ̶A̶ ̶M̶A̶N̶’̶S̶ ̶W̶O̶R̶L̶D̶”: A Celebration of Women in Film”. Their event focused on the lack of female representation in media and film. While this example differs from Absolut, one can evaluate how International Women’s Day can be highlighted in different ways to compliment the mission of the company.
How Companies Are Winning
Days like International Women’s Day can be vitally important. In choosing to participate, companies show that they are socially aware. This idea can be a lesson for any type of company. By creating a calendar with big dates, companies can incorporate content relating to the different holidays.
Kalendar notes other days companies should consider is International Day of Happiness on March 20, World Health Day on April 7, and International Day of Friendship on July 30. No matter the type of company you work for, by creating content to complement these important days, it is an easy way to show social awareness.
