How to be Safe Anytime, Anywhere: Find your Companion Today!

The Companion app “promises no one will ever walk home alone again.”

Ever felt uneasy or scared walking along in the dark? Back home from the library late at night? Even during the daylight in a sketchy area? Well, there is an app that can now help everyone feel safer wherever they are. The new app Companion, created and designed by five University of Michigan students, provides a simple way for people to feel safe in uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations.

How does it work? Instead of just texting a friend when feeling unsafe in a certain situation, the companion app can link a person to a “companion,” usually being a close friend or family member. After requesting the companion, they will get a notification on their phone to accept the request. Companion’s do not even need to have the companion app in order to help keep their friend safe. After accepting the request, the companion can see where their friend is at that moment and where they are headed, after their friend has entered their destination. Along with seeing their destination, they can also see what mode of transportation their friend is taking. What about for the user? After they have requested their companion, there is no other work needed. Their phone can be put away and their companion can continue to track their movements and see how safe they are. What happens when the user starts feeling nervous or uneasy in a certain situation? They have the option to either call their companion or police with just a simple tap of a button on their phone. With the companion app students and people of all ages can always have the option of feelings safe wherever they are.

With these app features it is so easy to find your companion

This app has the capability to change the lives of many students around the United States. With recent reporting’s of students in harmful situations late at night on school campuses or near them, it is necessary to have an app like Companion in order to prevent these kinds of situations from happening in the future.
